I don’t know who will be more excited – me or my boys.   This fall we will be going to our first Disney on Ice.

Growing up I loved ice skating.   I still remember being a little white rabbit in our production of Alice in Wonderland.   I was the rabbit whose ears actually stood up straight.   My mom was a wonderful costume maker.      I think she was living vicariously through me.   So I was a lucky kid who got to go to many events.   The circus, plays, and of course Disney on Ice.

Now that I have kids of my own.  I am excited to get to do these events with them.   Even if they are boys.   We love Disney movies.  I’m so excited we will be seeing:

Seriously people – before you leave the house, do me a favor…

Get dressed!

See your plain pajama pants and mostly see through tank top are meant for one place – your bed!

I do not need to see them walking around campus.

Do yourself a favor – invest in a pair of yoga pant or sweat pants. Oh and also your dignity.

I will be a little more forgiving of those just out of high school students. They just don’t know any better. But when you are say 30! Leave the pajamas at home.

In my dream world, I’d have a lovely kitchen and family room that looked out over the backyard. I could relax on my sofa and watch my boys going wild on their play structure. I could watch all that excess energy burn away as I watch Oprah.

But this isn’t my dream world. The small windows in our bedrooms look out to the backyard.

I have to bend over our TV stand and glance to the side to check on them outside. And even that way there are still a number of blind spots.

If the house is quiet I am lucky if I can hear them when I sit in our kitchen. Well I could hear a blood curdling cry if they got injured.

Fortunately, our gate is right next to the kitchen. I would at least know if they escaped from the yard.

So it is easy to see why I am uneasy about my children playing outside unsupervised. It doesn’t help that I just don’t trust my kids anyways. To many “it’s quiet, what are they into?” its too late moments. Did you see the bathroom incident?

When I leave my children alone and my garage open, I just have visions of what they could get into.

Hey Mitchell, why don’t you hide in the fridge?”
”
I bet the lawn mover needs gas” as they turn on the hose.

The possibilities are endless.

This evening I attempted to allow them to play outside while I made dinner. I wonder if they noticed me checking on them every 5 minutes.
